River Exploration
What can you learn about an ecosystem through exploration?
Investigating water quality of the First Branch of the Black River
by conducting a macro-invertebrate inventory.
River systems
function as the ecological circulatory system of the planet.
The health of our waters is directly connected to the health of our communities, watershed, and planet. As citizen scientists the class will explore the Black River watershed to observe firsthand the
ecological principles of
networks,
systems,
cycles,
flows,
development
and dynamic balance
nested in their community.
They will use observations, illustrations, and maps to build a comprehensive knowledge of their
watershed, build a model river system, use a river table to understand dynamic systems, model ecosystems, and publish a nature journal with their discoveries.
